Dear Wael,
TARI was incorporated
in Massachusetts in 1998 As a non-profit educational organization.
TARI’s Board members are: NaseerAruri (president),Hani Faris,Munir Akash,
Mujid Kazimi, Saree Makdesi and BisharaDoumani.
The current project
involves arranging a trip for 15American writers to visit refugee camps
in Syria and Lebanon and write their reflections on life and society in
the camps. Six writers have already traveled to Syria and Lebanon, wrote
their reflections, and participated in two seminars on the trip, one at
Suffolk University and another at Bennington College
The next trip, with
six prominent American writers, will take place in the fall of 2009
The second component
of the project consists of publishing an anthology on the literature of
refugee society, which I will edit and co-publish with Syracuse
University Press. This long overdue Anthology by prominent American and
Arab writers aims to bring to light the collective creativity experience
of the Palestinian refugees before, during and after the 1948 Nakba.
Both projects, as you
know, require funding and I am hoping that you and other members of SACC
will be able to help TARI launch these important projects.
Thanks and all the
Best,
Munir Akash,
